Doreen and Jim Hankins started the company along with a great team of dedicated, hard working like minded friends almost 5 years ago as a means to change the publics mindset regarding firearms and personal defense.
Detroit Arms is transitioning it’s focus to strictly functioning as a training organization after almost 5 years of retail and training. We are excited about the change of focus and look forward to working with each of our clients on enhancing their gun skills!

I am interested in me and my wife ( who is not that thrilled with the idea ) of LEARNING how to shoot .Also learn about gun saftey . We have not shot before . some info would be helpful .
Excellent to hear it! We do offer an in-house Introduction To Guns course, we utilize non-lethal trainer pistols that actually shoot – this runs $25.00 per person and can be done at your convenience. It takes typically around an hour, and in this time we teach general gun safety, safe handling, shooting techniques and holstering techniques. I was wondering what the procedures are for a CPL and where and when classes are given. Do you need to furnish your own gun? How much is the course and on what days.
We host the classes at our store every other Sunday – our next class is tomorrow, the class after that is on Sunday, September 12th. The class runs from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at our store, and then we shoot live fire pistols at the range on Monday night from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The qualification for the class is firing 30 consecutive rounds of ammunition into an 11×17 target from a distance of 12 feet. Once you have competed the class and have successfully fired the qualification target, you are given a Certificate of Completion. You then take that certificate, two passport quality photos, $105 and your completed application (provided at classtime) to your local county clerks office for processing. It takes anywhere from 30 days to 6 months to receive your CCW license from there. You do not need to own a pistol in order to complete our course, we will allow you to utilize our company guns at no additional charge, you are only responsible for purchasing the two boxes of ammunition necessary to shoot at the target. Hey guys I just have a few questions about you the ccw/cpl. I am a 21 year old female and weigh about 120lbs. Im rather small and so I am very interested in obtaining my license! What do you have to do to be able to carry the weapon on you? Is there a different license you have to apply for to do this? I was under the impression that with your standard ccw you could have a firearm in your home but not carry it in public with you? Is this true? Also, I wanted to sign up for your January classes, how much do your classes usually cost? Thank for all the help. I have heard nothing but good things about this place!
There’s only one type of CCW/CPL and that license allows you to carry a firearm that is loaded on your person in most areas you go. You can own a firearm without a CCW/CPL license and have it in your home at any time in any condition – you just may not take it loaded on your person CONCEALED anywhere or in your car in the loaded condition.
