The Castle Doctrine (also known as a Castle Law or a Defense of Habitation Law) is a legal doctrine that designates a person’s abode (or, in some states, any place legally occupied, such as a car or place of work) as a place in which the person has certain protections and immunities and may in certain circumstances attack an intruder without becoming liable to prosecution.

The basic rule on use of force in self-defense is that the force must be proportional to the threat.

Deadly force is only authorized in self-defense when preventing: death, great bodily harm that could lead to death, or rape (known modernly in Michigan as sexual assault.)

This means that the individual using deadly force in legitimate self defense must have an actual belief that he is preventing one of those three things, and that belief has to be reasonable under all the circumstances. In other words, a jury would have to agree that, if they were in thesame situation, they would share that same belief that great bodily harm, death, or sexual assault were about to occur.

That being said, any student of ours knows that we always recommend caution and to resort to shooting only as a last resort.

ADVANCED PISTOL CONCEPTS 1 COURSE OF FIRE

What good is having a CCW permit and carrying a gun if you aren’t truly prepared to draw and fire both accurately and in a timely fashion?

The objective of our Advanced Pistol Concepts 1 is to teach you the skills you need in order to effectively engage a target at center of mass, from a concealed holster, at varying distances in under 2 seconds!

In this class you will learn to:

-       Draw from a holster – both open carry and concealed carry
-       Engage targets at varying distances in under 2 seconds
-       Reloading techniques
-       Weapon Retention Techniques

COURSE FEE: $ 50.00 Per Person

That fee is all-inclusive – it includes our one-day 2-hour class and all materials necessary to attend the class – it includes the use of a gun, holster, magazine pouch, eye protection, ammo, etc.  We are utilizing working, non-lethal trainer pistols for this course, so it’s safe for adult shooters of every experience level!  Your only requirement for the class is to wear a sturdy belt.

Certain businesses in Michigan have posted “No-Guns” signs indicating that persons lawfully licensed to carry concealed firearms for self defense are not welcome on their property or within their place of business.

Those are the places I don’t patronize.

In an Open Letter to all Federal Firearms Licensees issued by the U.S. Department of Justice Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives on September 21, 2011, they pointed out that while a number of states have passed legislation allowing under State law the use or possession of marijuana that Federal law prohibits it.

What does this mean?

According to the ATF it means any person who uses or is addicted to marijuana, regardless of whether his or her State has passed legislation authorizing marijuana for medical purposes, is prohibited by Federal law from possessing firearms or ammunition.

So, if you are a card carrying Medical Marijuana user, you must answer “YES” on the ATF Form 4473 and you may not buy a gun or ammunition from ANY GUN STORE in the USA.

Furthermore, if the employees of Detroit Arms are aware that the our potential customer is in possession of a card authorizing the possession and use of marijuana under State law, then we are then required to have “reasonable cause to believe” that this customer is an unlawful user of a controlled substance and, as such, we are prohibited from transferring or selling firearms and/or ammunition to you, even if you have answered “No” to question 11.e on ATF Form 4473.

On September 6, 2011, GLOCK Inc. will begin voluntarily exchanging the recoil spring assembly (RSA) on its new Gen4 pistols shipped since 2009 GLOCK’s product development team has modified various elements of the RSA to ensure each pistol’s performance meets the company’s demanding standards.

With several variations of the RSA in the market today, GLOCK’s goal with this voluntary exchange is to standardize the RSA to gain the best possible performance in each pistol.

Armorers should note that Gen4 G26 and G27 models will not require a modified recoil spring.

The new RSA’s all have unique markings on the base of the part.  The enclosed chart is designed to help you readily identify the correct RSA for your pistol.

Unless a directive is mandated by your agency or your store, the replacement of the Gen4 pistol’s RSA can be performed as part of the regular field-strip process.  Agencies or Consumer’s wishing to participate in the exchange program at no charge are urged to call 1-877-745-8523 to order their new RSA.

Currently, tasers are illegal in Michigan.

However, the state House recently passed a bill that would allow citizens, not just law enforcement, to carry the electrical shock weapons.

The Senate will vote on the bill in the next few weeks.

If the bill does pass, tasers will only be able to be purchased by individuals with valid CCW/CPL permits.

Jim Hankins, owner of All Points Media Works and most notably the husband of Doreen Hankins, owner of Detroit Arms, has announced the release of an iPhone and iPad App called Safety Grid “The Worlds Best Panic Button” for that works on the iPhone and iPad.

Compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, and iPad Wi-Fi + 3G, SafetyGrid utilizes a Patent Pending enhanced alert messaging system.

Unlike other systems, SafetyGrid messages supports silent two-way alarm acknowledgment. The user is immediately aware of whether or not their request for help message was successfully sent, as well as if it was acknowledged by one of their contacts, as a visual icon in the app changes based on the state of their alarm. The silent alarm feature is a plus in the event of a kidnapping or other emergency where a discreet alarm is necessary.

Alarm messages are sent to the users chosen contacts via SMS text messaging and email, as well as by automated phone voice messaging.
